Energy Democracy – Developing Local Energy Markets

A full day conference at the Guildhall, Bath, in partnership with Bath & NE Somerset Council

The conference is based on rapidly evolving new opportunities to directly supply households and local businesses with low-cost locally generated renewable electricity through the existing electricity grid (and microgrids in new housing developments). The aim of the conference is to share experience and build capacity in delivering these new opportunities. There will be networking opportunities throughout the day.

The morning session of the conference will feature:

  • The Energy Local model of local renewable electricity supply to households through the grid, with case studies from Bridport and Totnes, and a new project in Bath & NE Somerset
  • Microgrids and opportunities for local electricity trading through Virtual Power Plants

The afternoon session will look at the bigger picture, including a speaker from the EU, and will include:

  • Overview of local community energy trading and energy sharing in EU Countries
  • Updates on the Local Electricity Bill and new Community Energy Fund
  • Panel discussion on barriers and opportunities

Presentations will be recorded and posted on the website after the event.
